BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke and is one of Germany’s top manufacturers that has been around since 1916. These models are all about efficiency even to the point where their nomenclature is strict and to the point. No fancy names that resemble animals or forces of nature; nope, just a couple of numbers and letters that leave only their raw capabilities to be admired by drivers all around the world. This would scare many manufacturers, but when it comes to BMW they have nothing to hide, in fact, they want you to focus on only how impressive their vehicles look and can perform. That being said it’s time to dig deeper into what these BMWs can really offer us.

Understanding the Naming System

Generally, all these numbers and letters are meant to identify the body type options of a BMW. The mainstream car lineup is numbered ranging from smallest to largest. BMW 2 can be a coupe, a convertible, a five-seat MPV, or a seven-seat MPV. After this things get a little more straightforward. Odd numbers from BMW 3 on are saloon/sedan cars and even numbers from BMW 4 on are coupes.  The BMW 4 can also be a convertible. The X series is for your SUVs or as BMW likes to call the SAV for sports activity vehicles. The M series is all about performance, and the i series is for electric cars. There are advanced options to consider with these BMWs, but these are the basics which should get give you enough to start shopping.

BMW 2-8 (Car, Coupes, and Convertibles)

Cars, coupes, and convertibles are all about sensibility as style. These are the most common body types chosen by drivers due to their customizability, affordability, handling potential, and size convenience. BMW offers a wide selection of body types, but you will easily find the most versatility in this selection.
